For the freedom to live an ordinary life.
Tehran, 2022. As the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising fills the streets, a defiant young woman finds refuge among a group of strangers whose lives have been shaped by the same system they now dare to challenge.
Bound by friendship and a longing for freedom, they confront dangerous choices: whom to trust, what to risk, and how to resist brutality without losing their humanity. Between protests and narrow escapes, they share meals, trade jokes, and dream of futures they might never see.
Written by Parviz Bina, 1401 is a 260-page graphic novel inspired by Iran’s Woman, Life, Freedom uprising. Stark black-and-white artwork gives way to vivid bursts of color, weaving intimate human stories with Persian mythic imagery.
